MAY 29, 2024 – In light of the alarming rise of antisemitism around the globe, a new committee affiliated with the United Nations called End Antisemitism and Promote Peace (EASAPP) has been formed and held its first meeting last week to elect its founding officers and board members.
The mission of the new committee is to combat antisemitism, bigotry, hate, genocide, and promote peace.
“EASAPP will work to ensure that the State of Israel is treated fairly and the same as all other member States at the UN, in accord with the UN Charter,” said newly elected chair Susanne Seperson.
The new End Antisemitism committee is designated as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and is an Affiliate Substantive Committee of the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CoNGO) in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations.
EASAPP was formed in New York and approved in Vienna on April 27, 2023, at the 75th anniversary celebration of the establishment of CoNGO. It is the 38th Committee of CoNGO whose members include committees working on issues dealing with ageing, the family, freedom of religion or belief, and mental health, among others.
To realize its goals, EASAPP will engage in advocacy, education, and communication with government missions, committees, non-government organizations, and interested individuals supporting an end to antisemitism and the promotion of peace, Seperson explained.
The Nominations Committee was chaired by Rev. Dr. Levi Bautista, President of CoNGO and Committee Members were Kevin Brabazon, Generations United, and Judy Mintz, International Council of Jewish Women, NGO Representatives to the UN.
