The International Human Rights Committee (IHRC) has recently highlighted a concerning situation where religious extremists, within Pakistan have made a threat against the Ahmidi Muslim community members. The Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) known for their views and practices has delivered a strong message to the Chiniot district authorities urging them to eliminate what they perceive as “non Islamic practices”, from Ahmadi religious sites by October 28th or else they suggest they will intervene themselves.
The recent danger is a continuation of the increasing acts of violence and discrimination targeted at the Ahmedi community, in Pakistan as stated by the IHRC which emphasizes that all aspects of life in Pakistan are at risk due to clerics urging assaults, on this minority group.
A cleric named Muhammad Naeem Chattha Qadri was captured in a video urging his followers to launch attacks, against Ahmadi mothers to prevent the birth of new Ahmadis. He even mentioned that newborn babies should be eliminated. The IHRC has criticized this speech as it promotes hatred and discrimination against Ahmadiyya Muslim Community members, in Pakistan.
The IHRC has raised concerns, about the situation in Pakistan. Cautioned that the overall safety and stability of society are in jeopardy due, to the activities of extremist factions operating there The group has urged Pakistani officials to uphold their international human rights obligations and safeguard the religious liberties of the Ahmadi community.
The IHRC made a declaration stating that staying silent, in response to provocation implies that violence towards Ahmadis is deemed acceptable from moral and legal perspectives. They have called on the community to encourage the government to align its laws and actions, with international norms outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The challenges faced by the Ahmadi community in Pakistan serve as a reflection of the battle, for religious liberty and acceptance in the area. According to the IHRCs statements it is imperative for global entities to promptly intervene to safeguard this, at risk minority group and guarantee the preservation of their human rights.
